Tips on Interviewing
- 🙋 Your mentor is a current PhD student in our program. They are happy to answer any questions for you about the interview process, the Bioinformatics program, their lab, Boston life, etc. Your interactions with them will not be shared with the program faculty or anyone who makes decisions about whether or not you will get into the program, so please feel comfortable to ask them about whatever is on your mind!
- 💬 You will likely meet with a few professors in our program who will talk to you for about 20 minutes. Be prepared to talk about your background, why you want to come to BU, and ask them questions about the program or their work. These interviews are definitely meant to be a conversation, rather than grilling you about your knowledge. Feel free to ask your mentor or any current students about the professors you will be interviewing with once you get their names.
- 😊 Similarly, the social events are just casual! Please enjoy yourself and use this time to chat with other applicants or current students. Make sure that you enjoy the program culture — this is about making sure that the program is a good fit for you.
- ❣️ Most importantly, we are looking for people who are excited about our program! Don’t be afraid to show your excitement!
